During the briefing, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova was asked questions by the journalist of the Public Television Mary Yegoryan. She particularly asked about the process of discussions on the proposal of Armenia’s Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to deploy international observers on the border after the withdrawal of Armenian and Azerbaijani troops from the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. She also reminded of the provocations of the Azerbaijani troops invading the sovereign territory of Armenia in the direction of Verin Shorzha, as a result of which an Armenian soldier was recently wounded.
Answering the questions of ‘Lurer’ correspondent, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova noted:
“As for the border, the situation in some parts of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border is not directly related to the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. This is due to the lack of international legal demarcation of the border. In general, the situation is exacerbated by a lack of mutual trust between the parties. We have repeatedly stressed that the earliest start for the lasting settlement of this issue is the border demarcation process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and then the demarcation process.”
The official representative stressed that the Russian side is ready to assist in the consultations. Contacts between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense, as well as border guards are ongoing to reduce tensions.
