The US administration, contrary to the calls of American entrepreneurs and lawmakers, will not simultaneously lift restrictions on entry from the UK, EU countries, Canada and Mexico, imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic. A White House spokesman told Reuters, TASS reports.
In June, the US administration revived interagency working groups to study the issue of resuming travel to and from the countries mentioned. “These working groups have met several times, additional discussions are to be held before we can announce any next steps towards resuming communications with any country,” the source said.
“We have made significant progress in vaccination, as have many of these countries, but we want to ensure that we are moving in the right direction and are in a situation of sustainable and safe resumption of international travel,” added a White House spokesman.
On March 13, 2020, then-President of the United States, Donald Trump, restricted the entry into the country of persons who had visited the states of the Schengen zone. He later extended this ban to Ireland and UK. The measures, however, only apply to foreigners. On March 20, 2020, Trump announced that the United States would temporarily impose border crossing restrictions with Mexico and Canada.
