Abu Dhabi has cancelled a $2.94 billion contract to build a new terminal building at the emirate’s main airport after a series of delays, citing four sources familiar with the matter, Ahval reports.
The contract for the 700,000 square metre terminal was awarded in 2012 to Arabtec of the United Arab Emirates, Turkey’s TAV Inşaat and the Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) of Greece.
One of the people said that state-run Abu Dhabi Airports cancelled the deal after the companies exceeded project costs. Arabtec filed for liquidation in January.
The terminal, still under construction, had been due to open in 2017. In 2019, Abu Dhabi Airports said construction was 97.6 percent complete, according to the news wire.
