Russian President Vladimir Putin and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon discussed by phone the difficult situation on the Tajik-Afghan border, the Kremlin said on Monday, TASS reports.
“Russian President Vladimir Putin had a phone conversation with Tajikistan's President Emomali Rahmon. The difficult situation on the Tajik-Afghan border caused by the escalation of armed confrontation in Afghanistan, including in the border zone, was discussed in detail,” the statement said.
Putin reaffirmed his readiness to support Rahmon in light of the escalation in Afghanistan, the Kremlin said.
“Vladimir Putin confirmed his readiness to provide Tajikistan with the necessary support - both bilaterally and within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization,” the statement reads following the conversation.
