Today President of Tajikistan, Chairman of the Security Council Emomali Rahmon held a Council meeting, khovar.tj reports.
The meeting was attended by Council’s permanent members and members, heads of military structures and law enforcement agencies.
Due to the aggravation of the situation on the border of Afghanistan with Tajikistan, the Council members discussed the issue relating to ensuring security in the border areas and taking measures to strengthen the protection of the state border.
Commander of the Border Troops Rajabali Rahmonali and Minister of Internal Affairs Ramazon Rahimzoda reported on the situation at the state border.
While considering the escalation of political situation in the border areas of Afghanistan with Tajikistan, President Emomali Rahmon instructed Council members, heads of military structures, law enforcement agencies to take concrete measures in order to ensure security of the state and nation in the border area of Tajikistan with Afghanistan.
It was instructed to strengthen the border protection capacity and to direct additional military forces to the necessary areas in order to protect the state border.
Along with strengthening the border protection capacity, President also instructed to pay special attention to the prevention of violations at the state border, including the prevention of transnational crime, terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking.
Following the meeting, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon instructed the Minister of Defense to mobilize 20,000 reserve troops to further strengthen the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
