In June, inflation in Georgia amounted to 9.9% compared to the same period in 2020, reaching its maximum rate in 10 years. This is stated in the materials of the National Statistics Service ‘Sakstat’ (Gruzstat), Georgia Online reports.
One of the main reasons for the rise in inflation remains the termination of state subsidies for housing and communal services. Compared to June 2020, prices for housing, water, electricity and gas rose by 10.5%, which was reflected in the annual inflation rate of 1.59 percentage points.
In general, in the ‘transport’ group, prices have increased by 22% over the past year, which is reflected in the general inflation index in the form of 2.54 percentage points.
Prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages have increased by 8.8% over the past year.
Since the beginning of 2020, the annual inflation rate has begun to decline. In January and February, it amounted to 6.4%, in March - 6.1%, in September - 3.8% and it remained at this level for three months. In early 2021, it became clear that the positive trend is temporary. In February, the annual inflation was 3.6%, and in March - it was 7.2%.
