The meeting of the Christian leaders of Lebanon, led by Pope Francis, took place in the Vatican, with the participation of the Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia of the Armenian Apostolic Church Aram I.
The meeting consists of two parts: a discussion of the current situation in Lebanon and a public ceremony in support of the country. The summit began with a discussion on how religion can help Lebanon overcome the biggest crisis since 1990.
The spiritual leaders first prayed in front of St. Peter’s Basilica, then moved to the Vatican Apostolic Palace, where discussions began.
The pontiff expressed a desire to visit Lebanon to help Lebanon overcome the crisis over the formation of a new government. Earlier, the Vatican said that the Pope’s visit to Lebanon could take place later this year or early next year.
The leader of the Catholic world has expressed concern that the Christian community in Lebanon is weakening, and that there is a danger that the internal balance of the country will be upset, endangering the presence of Christians in the Middle East.
