According to EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, the European Union is interested in involving Russia in solving global problems, since Moscow is a major player in the world arena, TASS reports.
“The last pillar of our relationship with Russia is interaction. Whether you like it or not, Russia is a major player on the world stage. It has increased its political presence in many parts of the world, including countries where EU has interests - Libya, Afghanistan, Nagorno-Karabakh and Syria are good examples. I also mean the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan on Iranian Nuclear Program (JCPOA) on Iran. Russia is a JCPOA member and we must get Russia back on track,” Borrell said.
In addition, according to the head of EU diplomacy, it is impossible to solve global problems without Russia.
“There are also global problems, and Russia’s involvement in their solution is in our interest, because failure to resolve these problems will affect all of us,” he added. “At the same time, we share a continent with Russia, and it remains a vital player on many fronts. We have no alternative but to develop a principled, balanced and strategic approach.”
