The situation on the Sino-Indian border remains stable, both sides are negotiating to resolve issues. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin announced this on Monday, TASS reports.
“In general, the situation on the border between China and India remains stable, both sides are engaged in the settlement of relevant issues through negotiations,” he said at a briefing. “Against this background, all political statements and military redeployments are aimed at reducing tensions.”
According to the diplomat, all actions taken by Beijing and New Delhi at different levels to eliminate contradictions on the joint border “take into account the interests of both sides.”
India has redeployed at least 50,000 additional troops to the border with China in recent months to strengthen its position in the region, the Mint newspaper reported on Monday, citing sources. According to the newspaper, about 200 thousand Indian military personnel are already concentrated there, which is 40% more than last year’s figure.
In May 2020, clashes occurred in the mountainous region of Ladakh on the border of the two countries, which resulted in casualties on both sides. India and the PRC have pulled heavy artillery, tanks and aircraft into the area. However, after a series of negotiations at the military and diplomatic levels, on February 10, Beijing and New Delhi began a mutual withdrawal of troops from the border line.
