The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has published a report entitled ‘World Investment Report – 2021’. It was mentioned that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of foreign direct investments registered in the world decreased by 35% last year, which is the lowest rate since the global financial crisis in 2008.
According to the report, the number of foreign direct investments in Azerbaijan decreased by 66%, which is twice the world average. In 2019, $1 billion 504 million were invested in the country, while last year the figure was only $507 million.
Azerbaijan's direct investments in foreign countries have decreased, too. In 2019, Azerbaijan invested $2 billion 432 million in foreign countries, and in 2020 - $825 million.
