The armed forces of Azerbaijan, together with representatives of the Turkish army, have begun joint drills ‘Mustafa Kemal Ataturk – 2021’ in the republic. This was reported on Monday by the press service of the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry, TASS reports.
“Tactical exercises, during which live firing will be carried out, began on June 28 as part of an agreement on cooperation in the military sphere between the two countries. The purpose of the maneuvers is to improve the coordination of the military units of Azerbaijan and Turkey, develop the managerial skills of commanders,” the statement said.
The exercises, according to the Azerbaijani military department, will involve 600 servicemen, 40 tanks and other armored vehicles. “The maneuvers also involved up to 20 artillery and mortar guns of various calibers, seven combat and transport helicopters, three unmanned aerial vehicles for various purposes and up to 50 units of automobile equipment,” the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan stated.
The exercises will last until June 30.
