Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on the European Union to get rid of blindness and accept Turkey as its member, RIA Novosti reports.
“We want to see the end of our long-term commitment to the EU. It is impossible for the European Union to become a center of gravity and power without the presence of Turkey. We want the European Union to get rid of blindness as soon as possible,” he said.
Turkey signed the Association Agreement with the EU in 1963 and applied for membership in 1987. However, membership talks began in 2005 and have been suspended several times due to disagreements.
