The European Union confirmed that Serbia and Kosovo will be able to join the community only after the normalization of their relations as a result of a high-level dialogue mediated by the EU. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell stated this on Tuesday before the start of the next round of talks between Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and the Prime Minister of unrecognized Kosovo, Albin Kurti, TASS reports.
“We face difficult negotiations. And here it is very important to understand that the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina and its results will become a gateway to the European future for both sides,” he said. “Without this dialogue, economic progress and prosperity in the region will be undermined.”
Borrell especially stressed that he was very pleased to hold the next meeting between Belgrade and Pristina at the moment when US President Joe Biden was discussing cooperation with EU in Brussels.
