NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said the main topic of the alliance's summit will be Russia and the upcoming talks between the Russian and American presidents. The Secretary General said this before the start of the summit.
The NATO summit will take place on Monday, June 14, in Brussels in an offline format. The summit will discuss the new strategic concept of the North Atlantic Alliance until 2030, Russia, China, strengthening technological development, combating climate change and threats in cyberspace and space.
According to Stoltenberg, US-Russian relations are at their lowest level since the end of the Cold War.
“I am sure that the leaders of the NATO countries will confirm our double approach to Russia: strong defense on the one hand and dialogue on the other,” the Secretary General stated.
He also added that NATO leaders will also hold consultations with American leader Joe Biden ahead of his talks with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Geneva on June 16.
Earlier, US Assistant to the President for National Security Jake Sullivan said that Biden would discuss the upcoming meeting with Putin with NATO leaders, and would go to the meeting with the full support of the alliance.
