The United States has allocated another $150 million military package in security assistance to Ukraine, US defense department John Kirby stated at a regular briefing for journalists, AP reports.
“Today, the department is announcing a new $150 million dollar package as part of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) to help Ukraine's forces preserve their country's territorial integrity and to improve interoperability with NATO. The package includes capabilities such as two counter artillery radars, some counter unmanned aerial systems and secure communications. It will complement the 125-million-dollar package that we announced back in March. This package is made possible after the Department of Defense, in coordination with the State Department, was able to certify that Ukraine has made sufficient progress on defense reforms this year as required by the National Defense Authorization Act,” Kirby stated.
The Pentagon states that the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) includes training, equipment, and advisory efforts to help Ukraine's forces preserve the country's territorial integrity, secure its borders, and improve interoperability with NATO.
Ukraine has harbored hopes for increased military aid during the Biden administration and is looking for backing in its bid for NATO membership.
