French President Emmanuel Macron said that despite existing differences of opinion with Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the leaders of the two countries should continue to keep contacts, media reports.
“Although there are differences of opinion, we must talk to each other and continue the dialogue,” Macron said during a press conference at the Elysee Palace.
The French leader said that he would like to meet with President Erdogan at the upcoming NATO summit in Brussels (June 14) “It's good. We need to see each other,” said Macron.
He noted that he plans to exchange views with the Turkish President on France’s fight against ‘radical Islamism’, issues related to NATO activities, as well as the situation in Syria, Libya and Nagorno-Karabakh.
Macron stressed that he intends to inform the Turkish President that France fight against ‘radical Islamism’ is in no way directed against Islam. He added that he is going to discuss “areas of possible cooperation” with Erdogan.
