Acting US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Philip Reeker arrived in Armenia on a regional visit. In an interview with RFE / RL in Yerevan, he stressed the US Government’s position that all those captured during the 44-day war should be released.
“The US Government has repeatedly emphasized the need for all prisoners, all detainees freed and returned home. We have to remember this conflict affected people. It is too easy to dehumanize the conflict. It is important to remember that this is about human beings, people on both sides of the conflict, about children, spouses, parents of people. We want to see all detained people returned, we want to see that the landmines are over, we want to see the end of the conflict and the comprehensive settlement of the conflict. This is what the United States has been supporting for years as the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair,” said Philip Reeker.
Reeker stressed that he also raised the issue of the return of Armenian prisoners of war in Baku.
“We have clearly expressed the same points that are present in our public announcements. Secretary Blinken has stated that the detainees need to be returned in order to move forward, address the full aspects of the conflict, and come to a comprehensive resolution.”
