As part of a visit to Syunik to review UN support to the region, the UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia, Shombi Sharp met with the Manager of the “Syunik Family and Children Support Centre,” Ruzanna Hovhannisyan and her team.
They discussed ongoing programmes of the Centre providing critical services to both local and displaced people in the community, enhanced by support provided under the UN-coordinated Inter-Agency Response Plan (IARP). Mr. Sharp visited the numerous classes offered by the Centre, including a newly opened information technology class made possible by UNHCR Armenia, and met a number of students to hear more about how they benefit from the Centre.
The UN RC also met with families displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh and now housed in adjacent premises to learn about their stories, including difficult challenges and aspirations for the future. He shared information on UN Armenia’s ongoing support and planned activities seeking to help create conditions for sustainable development and wellbeing both for displaced people from Nagorno-Karabakh and host communities in Armenia.
