Russian peacekeepers ensured the safety of 98 pilgrims and local residents visiting the Amaras Monastery.
As part of the implementation of the trilateral statement of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia of November 9, 2020, Russian peacekeepers continue to assist in the restoration of peaceful life in Nagorno-Karabakh.
So, the servicemen of the Russian peacekeeping contingent on the eve ensured the safety of visiting the Amaras Christian monastery, located near the demarcation line of the sides. Each time, more and more people come here from Stepanakert city and the settlements adjacent to the monastery.
“As the abbot of the monastery, as a priest, I am very grateful for the service to all peacekeepers, to all soldiers. After each liturgy, each service, for the next service, even more pilgrims come, this is me that people see security, that peacekeepers accompany them, and they are here. Where the Russian flag hangs, where Russian soldiers serve, it is 100 percent safe there. As a minister of the church, I am very grateful to you, for your service, for your kindness and for the fact that you protect the world,” said Father Geghard, the rector of the Amaras monastery.
Amaras is one of the early medieval Christian monasteries and is located in the Martuni region. In medieval Armenia, it had the status of a famous religious and cultural centre.
As a result of the signing of a ceasefire agreement, after the end of hostilities, the early medieval Amaras monastery was in the immediate vicinity of the demarcation line. Servicemen of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh on a regular basis ensure the safety of pilgrims wishing to visit this shrine.
