Azerbaijan continues trials of fake criminal cases against Armenian captives. Today, the prosecutor in Azerbaijan demanded 20 years in prison for Lebanese-Armenian Viken Euljekjian, who was taken prisoner after November 9. Baku accuses him of being a mercenary for terrorist acts. During today’s court hearing, it was announced that Euljekjian’s next trial will take place on June 11.
Azerbaijan has opened false criminal cases against more than two dozen Armenian captives. International law expert Ara Ghazaryan told ‘Lurer’ contradicted Baku’s claims of Armenian servicemen allegedly committing war crimes, noting that the trials were an imitation and the process was not public.
“The first thing to do is ensure publicity. Under international law, even the absence of this one element invalidates the trial. It is discriminatory persecution. In other words, they are condemned just because they are Armenians, and it fits within the framework of the general anti-Armenian policy,” international law specialist Ara Ghazaryan says.
