On June 3, within the framework of a working trip to Syunik province, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin met with the governor of Syunik Melikset Poghosyan.
The parties discussed the situation in the southern province of Armenia, including its border regions. The head of the diplomatic mission noted that the Russian Federation, within the framework of fulfilling its allied obligations, makes a significant contribution to ensuring the security of fraternal Armenia. Particularly the number of the Russian border troops has been increased and considerable material-technical and financial resources have been allocated to support their activities.
Poghosyan expressed gratitude to the Russian Federation and its leadership for ending the bloodshed in autumn 2020 and the subsequent valuable contribution to post-conflict reconstruction. The Governor praised the service of the Russian border guards in the region.
During the conversation, the current state and prospects for expanding cooperation between Syunik province and the constituent entities of the Russian Federation were considered. Issues of the social and economic development of Syunik were discussed.
The ambassador assured that Russia will continue to assist in the realization of the economic potential of the province, including in the tourism sector.
