Closed-door consultations of the OSCE Minsk Group will be held in Vienna on June 2. Russia’s Permanent Representative to the organization Alexander Lukashevich said this yesterday, Россия сегодня reports.
According to Lukashevich, OSCE is looking for approaches for the parties of the conflict; it is still difficult to determine what role this structure has. “Very specific ‘recipes’ are expected from the Co-Chairs on how they will fit into the paradigm of new realities, joint statements of the three parties. The mandate was given to the OSCE Minsk Group on March 23, 1995, and the scope of powers was outlined in the context of the settlement. However, all these developments did not yield the desired result, despite the fact that there was a Russian intervention and a settlement was reached based on the approaches developed by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, and President Putin has said about this many times, including in public,” said Lukashevich.
He emphasized the role of the Co-Chairs, as well as the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, in resolving the conflict.
The diplomat believes that the consultations can assist the Co-Chairs and Personal Representative in decisions and in actions. In his opinion, this will be discussed at today’s consultations of the Minsk Group.
“The Minsk Group consultations are not a public discussion, but joint public statements are expected,” Lukashevich said.
