Not only can we avoid war today, but also this situation must be resolved without war. This is my clear position, stated Nikol Pashinyan, Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia and the leader of the pre-election list of the ‘Civil Contract’ party, at the meeting with the supporters of the ‘Civil Contract’ in the Ajapnyak administrative district of Yerevan, referring to the border tension.
According to him, the issue of border adjustment is simple and difficult today.
“It is a politically simple and practically difficult issue, but the world knows how to solve it,” Pashinyan said, recalling his proposal to the international community, Russia and the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs at yesterday’s Security Council session.
“We suggest that we withdraw the troops from Sotk to Khoznavar, take them to permanent locations, and let international observers come from either Russia or the OSCE MG Co-Chairs. Let’s take out the documents under international auspices, see where the border passes, and demarcate the border,” he said.
Pashinyan also stated that Azerbaijan and some Armenian forces want to provoke a war.
“We do not agree with it and we will not agree with it,” he said, adding that what is happening in Armenia is a national liberation struggle for statehood, sovereignty and independence.
