May 28 is marked as Republic Day in the national calendar of Armenia. On this very day in 1918, the Armenian National Council announced the establishment of the Independent Republic of Armenia.
The creation of the state was like a real miracle for the Armenian nation during the most difficult period. The world has already deleted Armenia from the map. The world was already thinking that there would be no more Armenia.
The world did not believe that the people subjected to genocide would find the strength to fight against the Turkish army of thousands, not to lose, to gain sovereignty through heroic battles.
And the Armenian nation said a resounding ‘yes’ to the right to exist. At the cost of hard struggles, the statehood was achieved through the heroic battles of Bash Aparan, Sardarapat and Gharakilisa.
