Criminal cases have been filed against Armenian prisoners of war in Azerbaijan. The trial of some of them has already begun. Contradictory information is spread about Lebanese-Armenian Vigen Elchekjian. According to some human rights organizations, he did not appear in court yesterday because he was in hospital.
Hasmik Seymour, a founding member of the London-based Humanitarian Group of British Armenians dealing with the issue of Armenian prisoners of war (POWs), and Vigen’s family members told Lurer about their recent conversation with Vigen, their information, and the ongoing work.
“Vigen’s case is difficult, as he has only been in battles for 4-5 days, and they try to present him as a mercenary, as a terrorist,” says Hasmik Seymour, founder of the Humanitarian Group of British Armenians.
“We spoke (to Vigen) with the help of the Red Cross. He said he was taken to hospital. He said that his back hurt a lot, they beat him, we don't know what they did,” says Beatrice Elchekjyan, Vigen Elchekjyan’s mother.
