Russian peacekeepers continue to provide security during agricultural work along the line of demarcation of the parties in Nagorno-Karabakh.
A significant amount of agricultural land after the end of hostilities in the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh was near the border zone. Due to the fact that the local population is afraid to carry out agricultural work in such territories, the Humanitarian Response Center of the Russian peacekeeping contingent receives security applications, which are executed as necessary.
So, the day before, the military personnel of the Humanitarian Response Center ensured the safety of work on the equipment of the fire zone near the settlements of Nakhichevanik and Sargakhpyur.
"Russian peacekeepers ensure the safety of the work on the creation of a fire - fighting mineralized strip along the line of demarcation of the parties on the border of the Askeran and Aghdam districts of Nagorno-Karabakh," said Dmitry Perepelkin, a representative of the Center for Humanitarian Response. "According to local residents, grass fires occur here every year, and the presence of a fire zone will minimize the risks of uncontrolled spread of fire in the event of a grass fire," he added.
"We turned to the Russian peacekeepers to ensure security, to make a fire-fighting line. And today we are grateful to the Russian peacekeepers for providing it, " said Garik Aleksanyan, head of the Sargahpyur village administration.
In order to restore peaceful life, including the resumption of work on agricultural land – fields and plantations – located near the line of demarcation of the parties in Nagorno-Karabakh, Russian peacekeepers are doing a lot of work to eliminate the danger of mines and clear the area of explosive objects. So, since November 23, 2020, engineering and sapper units of humanitarian demining in Nagorno-Karabakh have cleared 2,121 hectares of territory and more than 650 kilometers of roads from unexploded ordnance, and 25,613 explosive objects have been found and neutralized.
