President Joe Biden has acknowledged that US sanctions have failed to stop the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, as it is almost complete, Euronews reports.
Earlier, the United States imposed sanctions on Russian companies and ships participating in the North Stream-2 project. The US President also noted that the restrictions on the bill could damage relations with Europe. At the same time, Biden stressed that Washington continues to consider Nord Stream-2 a bad idea and a “bad plan.”
Construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline from Russia to Germany underneath the Baltic Sea was to be completed by the end of 2019. However, this was prevented, particularly by the threat of US sanctions, and European companies began to abandon the project. In addition to the United States, Poland, Latvia and the Ukraine were big opponents of the program.
