President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian hosted the delegation led by Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif.
President Sarkissian welcomed the Iranian Foreign Minister’s visit and emphasized that Armenia considers Iran a reliable partner and friendly neighbor. He added that, in the current complicated situation in the region, further development and deepening of the relations between Armenia and Iran have become extremely important.
President Sarkissian also touched upon the fact that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces have invaded the territory of Armenia and the situation on the border, noting that Azerbaijan is posing a new threat to the entire region with its provocations.
Expressing gratitude for the reception, Mohammad Javad Zarif transmitted the warm greetings of President Hassan Rouhani and stated that Armenia has always been a good friend of Iran. He stressed that Iran supports the establishment of peace and ensuring of stability in the region and is ready to put in its possible efforts in this direction. He also stressed Iran’s interest in the full maintenance and ensuring of Armenia’s territorial integrity, noting that the Islamic Republic of Iran highlights the respect for the norms of international law.
The Armenian president and Iranian Foreign Minister also touched upon the Armenian-Iranian agenda and shared the view that the new challenges facing the region compel the countries to expand the agenda of political and economic relations. Stating that Iran and Armenia have a much greater potential for cooperation than they actually use, they highlighted the continuous development of mutually beneficial cooperation within the framework of various joint programs.
