The international community is becoming more and more active, OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries are talking about the need for a long-term political settlement of the Karabakh issue, Acting Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan said at today’s Government session, referring to the claims that the Karabakh issue is settled.
“Now we can say that the international community states that the Karabakh issue is not settled; it still needs to be settled. I want to emphasize the political will of our Government to go and resolve the issue, because we need to resolve all these difficult, painful, problematic issues in order to exclude war in the long-term perspective and open an era of peaceful development for Armenia. This is not an easy task. This is a very difficult task.
It takes political will, the ability to strike, an open, honest dialogue with the public. However, we do not want to give in to illusions. Yes, today the Azerbaijani Armed Forces have crossed the Armenian border. For the normal start of the long-term process, as I said, it is necessary for the Azerbaijani Armed Forces to leave the territory of the Republic of Armenia as soon as possible,” said the Acting Prime Minister.
Pashinyan presented the idea of their political team. “The idea is that along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, both the Armenian and Azerbaijani armed forces should withdraw to their permanent bases, and in those areas, and later, the entire border will be protected by border guards, for which they are called. It will not be easy to go for such a solution, it has many complications, but we have constantly offered it during this period, we continue to offer it. After all, it is the solution that will really be a sign of long-term stability in the region.”
