‘Lurer’ sent a letter sent to UNESCO trying to find out the position of the organization on the issue of vandalism against Armenian culture in Artsakh, sending a assessing mission to territories under the control of Azerbaijan, and using alternative mechanisms for the protection of cultural heritage.
In response to our inquiry, the letter received from UNESCO states:
“Thank you for your questions. These questions are important for UNESCO, which is deeply committed to the protection of cultural heritage. UNESCO is currently involved in important discussions with relevant stakeholders to this end. At this stage of the discussions, we can make the following statement: In line with the 11 December 2020 Declaration of the Committee for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict of the Second Protocol to The Hague Convention of 1954 for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict, UNESCO continues its discussions for the dispatch of a mission for the protection of cultural property in a spirit of consensus and strict impartiality.”
