On May 19, online political consultations were held between the foreign ministries of the Republic of Slovenia and the Republic of Armenia. Tigran Samvelyan, Head of the European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headed the Armenian delegation and the Slovenian delegation was headed by Director-General at the Directorate for Common Foreign and Security Policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia, Jernej Müller.
During the consultations, the interlocutors discussed a wide range of issues on the Armenian-Slovenian bilateral agenda, spoke about the prospects of cooperation and mutual assistance within the framework of international organizations, economic ties, outlining the steps taken to strengthen and expand them. Reference was made to the EaP Summit to be held in the second half of this year in the EU Council, chaired by Slovenia, as well as the opportunities to support Armenia through social programs of the Slovenian organization ITF Enhancing Human Security.
The parties exchanged views on a number of issues on the international agenda of mutual interest, got acquainted with each other's positions on regional issues.
The Slovenian side’s attention was drawn to the Artsakh conflict settlement and humanitarian assistance issues in the post-war situation, as well as to the situation in the border provinces of Armenia due to provocations of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces in the sovereign territory of Armenia.
In this context, the key role of the OSCE MG Co-Chairs was discussed in the peaceful settlement of the issue, particularly, in the final settlement of the status quo. Special attention was paid to the issues of humanitarian assistance and prisoners of war, which demand to be addressed urgently.
