Armenia’s border with Iran must be protected. The Chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Parliament of Armenia’s southern neighbor considered unacceptable the intrusion of Azerbaijan into the territory of Armenia. Zolnuri stated that the change of borders is unacceptable for Iran.
“The borders of the past must be fully protected, and the common border of the Islamic Republic of Iran with Armenia must be preserved,” said Mojtaba Zolnuri, Chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Iran has repeatedly emphasized that it would not tolerate the change of Armenia’s territorial integrity. According to the Iranian expert, the reason is the land exit.
“Iran has found ways to cooperate with the EEU, it should be done over land, through Armenia, the sea is clear, through the Caspian Sea,” says Iranian expert Gohar Iskandaryan.
The so-called ‘Zangezur Corridor’ declared by Aliyev is a forgery; it has no legal basis. With any change, Tehran realizes that its role will diminish.
“By now Azerbaijan has been linked with Nakhichevan through Iran, the creation of such a road and corridor will naturally reduce Iran’s role and Iran will not have the levers of influence against Azerbaijan it had before,” Iranian expert Zhanna Vardanyan says.
Due to its geographical location, Armenia is also the most profitable route for Iran to the Black Sea and Europe. From the Persian Gulf, Iran will reach the Black Sea via Armenia and Georgia, and from there to Bulgaria and Greece. There have already been a number of working meetings in this direction.
“The next meeting of the working group takes place in Bulgaria, and, most likely, they will reach a final agreement on this issue,” says Zhanna Vardanyan.
If this project is implemented, Iran will not be dependent on Turkey or Azerbaijan. There are always problems with the transportation of goods on Iran-Turkey and the Iran-Azerbaijan border, especially on the Astara border. Azerbaijan consciously creates problems.
“Azerbaijan caused the accumulation of trucks deliberately at the instigation of Turkey, as mainly agricultural goods are transported through the area. The goal is for them to spoil, not to reach the Russian market, for Turkish goods to reach and occupy the Russian market,” Zhanna Vardanyan says.
The Armenian Ambassador to Iran discussed the process of the works of the Persian Gulf-Black Sea International Transport-Transit Corridor project with the Minister of Roads and Urban Development. Artashes Tumanyan also informed about the situation created by the Azerbaijani invasion of Armenia, stating that Yerevan expects the support of friendly Iran to put an end to Azerbaijan’s provocative actions against the country’s territorial integrity.
