The CSTO has issued a statement on the situation in Syunik. The announcement says:
“Viktor Biyagov, Permanent and Plenipotentiary Representative of the Republic of Armenia to the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) during the meeting of the CSTO Permanent Council on May 13 this year, informed about the incident on the state border of the Republic of Armenia with the Republic of Azerbaijan, which took place on May 12. The Armenian side informed that the armed forces of Azerbaijan violated the border and plunged into the Armenian territory for several kilometers.
CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas discussed the current situation by telephone with Acting Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Vagharshak Harutyunyan and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ara Aivazian.
CSTO is closely following the development of the situation in the border regions of the Syunik province of Armenia. As the situation develops, if necessary, actions will be taken under the provisions of the Collective Security Treaty and the CSTO Charter.”
