Today is Yerkrapah (Defenders of the Land) Day.
The decision to mark May 8 as Yerkrapah Day was made at the 3rd Congress of the Union of Yerkrapah Volunteers (Yerkrapah Union of Veterans) in November 1997.
This holiday has been included in Armenia’s state calendar since 2002.
Union of Yerkrapah Volunteers was established in 1993. The organization has a coat of arms (an eagle with its wings open, sword and a shield with a symbol of eternity), a battle flag, and an anthem.
The main goals and objectives of the union are to support the prosperity of the Homeland, to ensure the security of the Armenian people, to support the strengthening of the RA Armed Forces, the military-patriotic education of teenagers and young people, to improve the social conditions of families of disabled, dead and missing freedom fighters.
