Armenia’s Parliament Speaker Ararat Mirzoyan sent a letter of gratitude to Speaker of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia Ināra Mūrniece on the adoption by the Latvian Parliament of a statement recognizing and condemning the Armenian Genocide committed during the Ottoman Empire. Mirzoyan believes this step proves the greatest commitment to justice, humanity, solidarity, and the universal values of human rights.
Ararat Mirzoyan noted in the letter, that Latvia’s recognition of the Armenian Genocide is support for the Armenian people, especially taking into account the security threats we faced during the 44-day Azerbaijani-Turkish war against Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). The Speaker of the Parliament added that the mass atrocities committed against the people of Artsakh, war crimes and gross violations of international humanitarian law once again proved that impunity creates fertile ground for the repetition of the crimes of the past.
