Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ara Aivazian stated at a joint press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov that during the meeting with Lavrov special reference was made to the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict, emphasizing the directions by which joint efforts should be intensified.
“I once again reiterated our clear stance that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is far from being resolved. Only through peaceful negotiations it is possible to reach a comprehensive political resolution which will take into account the rights of all and will bring peace and stability to South Caucasus.
And the basis of such resolution should first of all be the determination of Artsakh’s status within the borders where the people of Artsakh have self-determined. The principles of the settlement have been developed by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, and we are interested in further strengthening and intensifying the activities of the international community, which has a mediating mandate.
The Armenian side shares the common position of the Minsk Group Co-Chairs, which was presented in the April 13 statement that “special attention should be paid to the achievement of a final, comprehensive, stable settlement based on the principles and elements known to the parties,” Aivazian said.
According to the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, reference was also made to the humanitarian issues in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).
“In the context of the steps taken to restore living conditions in Artsakh, I would like to thank once again the efforts of the Russian side.
Today, it is very important for the people of Artsakh to return to their homes, to solve the problems related to the restoration of infrastructure, housing stock, normal life, and healthcare,” Aivazian said.
