Maine State House and Senate passed a joint resolution reaffirming their commitment to recognizing the Armenian Genocide. Maine first adopted an Armenian Genocide resolution in 1965.
The document states that “from April 24, 1915 to 1923, a campaign was launched by the Turkish regime of the Ottoman Empire against the Armenian people, and this campaign was an attempt to annihilate the entire Armenian people and resulted in the deaths of more than 1.5 million Armenians.
Many of the survivors settled in the State of Maine and their heirs have made significant contribution to the State over the last 106 years.”
