By the decision of the Government of the Republic of Armenia, the list of intangible cultural heritage values of the Republic of Armenia, which consisted of 33 elements, was supplemented with another 12.
These are: ‘Ascension Day’, ‘Easter, Holy Resurrection, Holy Easter’, ‘New Year’, ‘Yezidi Wedding Ritual’, ‘Funeral Ritual’, ‘Assyrian New Year Celebration’, ‘Duduk and its music’, ‘Kanon’ musical instrument, ‘Celebration of Musa Dagh’, ‘Tradition of Kurkut ritual dish in Kapan’, ‘Tradition of cooking dried pineapple and figs in Meghri’, ‘Embroidery culture of the Syrian-Armenian community of Armenia’.
The list of intangible cultural heritage values includes elements of traditional culture that express the cultural originality and national identity of the Armenian people. The preservation and popularization of these values greatly contribute to the process of passing on the national cultural heritage to future generations, raising the level of Armenia’s recognition in the international arena.
The draft decision ‘on making changes in the decision N 310-A of the Government of the Republic of Armenia of March 11, 2010’ was approved by the Government of the Republic of Armenia on April 15, 2021, by the decision 599-A.
The purpose of the draft decision is to supplement the existing list of intangible cultural heritage values of the Republic of Armenia, the need for which is conditioned by the provisions of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2003 and the Law of the Republic of Armenia on Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The adoption of the draft is subject to the inventory of the intangible cultural heritage values of Armenia, as well as the submission of applications from the Republic of Armenia in the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
