Armenian Ambassador to the United States Varuzhan Nersesyan gave an interview to CNN, noting that on April 24, US President Joe Biden took a significant step in recognizing the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire.
According to the ambassador, this comes in addition to 2019 congressional recognition by the US House of Representatives and the US Senate of the Armenian Genocide, by which the United States now officially recognizes the genocide of 1.5 million Armenians in their historic homeland. Ambassador Nersesyan is convinced that this refers not only to the atrocities and genocides of the past, but also to a clear message of the present and the future. The Armenian Genocide was the first genocide of the 20-th century, which was not recognized and condemned as such; it was a precedent for other genocides in human history.
“We are deeply grateful to President Biden for this historic recognition. Thus, this recognition will further strengthen our region, which is oriented towards the future,” the ambassador said.
