The billboard placed on the occasion of the establishment of the Lithuanian forest was solemnly opened in the territory of Khndzorut forestry of ‘Vanadzor Forestry’ branch of ‘Hayantar’ (Armenian Forest) SNCO. Lithuania was one of the first EU countries to respond to the RA Government’s initiative to plant 10 million trees, donating 10,000 birch saplings to Armenia.
“Lithuania donated 10,000 birch saplings to our Government in a very organized and short time. The saplings were brought to Armenia by all procedures, they were kept in ‘Hayantar’ nurseries until this season, when they should be planted, and we combined it with the visit of our partner,” said Romanos Petrosyan, Acting Minister of Environment.
The Lithuanian forest of Lori will become a new symbol of friendly relations between the two countries. The first birch is planted by the Lithuanian Foreign Minister to mark the 30-th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Armenia.
“The trees have two symbols. The first is our 30-year relationship; the second is the continuation of that relationship in the future,” Gabrielius Landsbergis, Lithuanian Foreign Minister, said.
Samples of national tree species of different nations have been planted in the ‘Hayantar’ nurseries, now they are waiting for the adaptation period to end. After that, the forest fund will be replenished with new trees.
