The statement of the President of Azerbaijan on the creation of the so-called ‘Zangezur Corridor’ is actively discussed in the Iranian media these days. In an interview with Fars news agency, Ahmad Kazemi, an expert on international law, stressed that there was no such thing as a ‘Zangezur Corridor’ in history, which is a new historical falsification of Baku and has no legal basis.
The expert stressed that Aliyev’s words show that Baku’s goal is not to open the channels of communication, to determine the legal status of Karabakh, to normalize relations with Yerevan.
Kazemi added that Azerbaijan is trying to neutralize Iran’s geopolitical position in region through the so-called ‘Zangezur Corridor’, to isolate it from regional energy programs, to restrain China and Russia, to harm the ‘One Belt, One Road’ project.
Another article published on the website of the Iranian Mehr agency stressed that Azerbaijan’s territorial claims to Armenia contradict Iran’s interests, and that Tehran should officially condemn such statements.
