“Recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide are important not only in terms of truth, historical justice, but also in terms of the physical security of the Armenian people,” said Acting Foreign Minister Ara Aivazian, referring to US President Joe Biden’s recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
The Minister stressed that he shares the idea expressed in Biden’s message, saying that the international community should take active steps to prevent the recurrence of such international crimes in the future. “Armenia is one of the leaders in advancing the international agenda in the prevention and condemnation of genocides,” he said.
The Acting Minister also referred to the letter of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan addressed to the Armenian Patriarch of Constantinople, in which he called for the development of good-neighborly relations with Armenia.
“We are familiar with the letter of the Turkish President and the readiness expressed there. However, we highlight not only words but also deeds that we have clearly spoken about. There have been similar messages in the past; there was even a bilateral signed document, which, however, did not have a positive continuation. Once again I want to reaffirm that for us, not words, but deeds are important,” Aivazian said.
