Our delegation has fulfilled its task, which is to continue increasing the international pressure on Azerbaijan, particularly within the PACE, thus trying to reach a solution to our problem, said Ruben Rubinyan, Head of the Armenian delegation to PACE, referring to including the issue of Armenian prisoners of war (POWs) release in the agenda of the recent PACE plenary session. Rubinyan also issued a statement to the PACE Monitoring Committee calling on Azerbaijan to return the Armenian captives.
Rubinyan said that statements on this topic were made at the PACE session at the executive level as well. “Azerbaijan is behaving extremely destructively, violating the trilateral statement and international humanitarian law by not returning the Armenian POWs. And the only way to get our boys back is to increase the international pressure. By international pressure, I mean a broad process that is not limited to one or two steps or one-step at a time. This is a comprehensive process. It must take place in all possible international instances, in all possible bilateral relations. I am confident that we will eventually succeed in achieving our goal,” Rubinyan said.
One of the members of the Armenian delegation to PACE, Tatevik Hayrapetyan, highlighted the use of parliamentary diplomacy platforms in the face of international pressure for the release of POWs. “These steps for the return of the captives must be persistent, a situation must be created in which keeping captives for another day would be a headache for Aliyev,” she said.
