Reporters Without Borders (RSF), an international human rights organization, has published its annual Press Freedom Index.
The report says that Turkey ranks 153-rd among 180 countries in terms of freedom of press. In 2020, in the same report, Turkey was ranked 154-th, in 2017 – 155-th, in 2018 and 2019 – 157-th place.
In Turkey, especially the censorship of electronic media has increased, and restrictions on the media are becoming more dangerous due to the restrictions imposed by coronavirus.
Although Turkey has improved its place by one position compared to last year, it remains the country with the most imprisoned journalists in the world.
The first place in the list belongs to Norway, the second - Finland, and the third - Denmark. Freedom of the press is at the highest level in those countries. Armenia ranks 63-rd and Azerbaijan 167-th. The last, in the 180-th place, is North Korea.
