Georgia and Iran are our friendly countries; our diplomacy should be more active and deepen cooperation with our friends. ‘Lurer’ correspondent reports, Armenian President Armen Sarkissian stated it in a conversation with journalists at the end of his visit to Georgia.
Sarkissian stated that he and his Georgian counterpart Salome Zourabichvili talked about bilateral-regional cooperation, touched upon the issue of return of Armenian captives. “Holding captives is unacceptable, it is inhumane. I, as President, must raise this issue until it is resolved. When I talk about this issue here, not only the President of Georgia, the Georgian people, but also the international community listens,”said Sarkissian.
The President said, he stressed that without a just solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, it is impossible to ensure stability in the region. According to him, this is not the first time that Georgia has offered to become a platform between the sides. “It is an honest proposal, however, it is not clear to me who should negotiate and what should be negotiated. Before the negotiations, the opponent must show at least the most basic human attitude,” he said.
Sarkissian noted that they exchanged views on security issues. “Armenia has lost thousands of young people, there are wounded, there are economic problems, there are health problems, no one has declared war on COVID over, these are important security issues,” he said.
Sarkissian is sure that it is possible to cooperate with Georgia in the business sphere, as there is a great potential in that direction. According to the President, Georgia has customs advantages with China and EU, Armenia within the EEU. There are also opportunities for cooperation in the spheres of culture, education and transport.
