Turkey had a 25 percent discount on almost all exports of goods to the EEU countries, which will end in 4.5 months by the decision of the EEU Council made on March 5. Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan said about it during the discussion of the Government’s 2020 report at the National Assembly, answering the question of ‘My Step’ faction MP Gevorg Papoyan.
“The termination of the privilege means that we are talking about $25 billion in imports, that the products of the EEU countries receive a discount on the privilege. It is very important. Our businesses must start adapting to that situation,” Grigoryan said.
In response to the question of the NA Deputy Speaker Alen Simonyan, referring to the ban on import of Turkish goods to Armenia, the Deputy Prime Minister noted that before the restriction finished goods of about $200 million were imported to Armenia from Turkey, which, according to him, is a volume of potential production and is too much for Armenia. According to Grigoryan, that place should be occupied by our businesses.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the restriction on the import of raw materials and components does not apply, so that producers do not have problems.
To the question whether the validity of the ban on goods from Turkey will be extended, Grigoryan mentioned. “Judging by the wishes, impressions and potential voting, I can say for sure that at this moment, of course, the general mood is probably to be extended. There are exceptions for raw materials, but I am sure that it will be extended for finished goods,” Grigoryan concluded.
