Minister of Health of Armenia Anahit Avanesyan stressed during the question-answer session at the Parliament that a large-scale vaccination process has started in Armenia since yesterday.
“Vaccines should provide an opportunity to prevent the disease, to prevent the severe course of the disease, and to prevent death,” the Minister said.
According to Avanesyan, an agreement has already been reached at a high level to obtain one million doses of vaccine from Russia.
“Besides, taking into account other agreements, we consider it possible that by the end of the year we will be able to meet the target I have set (vaccination of about 700,000 people), to ensure the vaccination of up to 20% of the population. Referring to the statistics we should mention the morbidity figures. If we consider the death rate among the sick, then Armenia has registered a mortality rate of 1.7%, which is quite lower than the world average, the average is 2%,” Avanesyan said.
