I think it is important to keep the issue of opening communications in the center of our attention, Armenia Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated at the National Assembly. He expressed unequivocal doubt that Azerbaijan is doing everything to torpedo the process and keep Armenia under blockade.
“I want to state that we will consistently follow the implementation of the joint statement signed in Moscow on January 11 (2021), because it is a strategic task for us to establish a railway connection with the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran as soon as possible. This will mean that we can become a transit hub from the Persian Gulf to the Pacific Ocean and everywhere,” he said.
According to Pashinyan, oil, gas and oil products have played a great role in the economic strength of Azerbaijan, however, the Armenian Prime Minister drew everyone’s attention to the fact that Armenia has two huge ‘oil’ reserves of the 21st century: copper, and water. “We must be able to make the Republic of Armenia not an ore exporting country, but rather a country exporting ready metal products, and this is directly related to the opening of communications”, Pashinyan said.
“The existence of a railway connection is essential for the implementation of such big economic projects of the investment environment. Since 2018, we have started studying the possibilities of accumulating water resources. On the other hand, Armenia must implement a large program for the accumulation of irrigation and drinking water. Our economy must rely on these two bases,” said the Prime Minister.
