Today 100 trees were planted in the birch park of the Victory Park in memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945). Hayk Marutyan, Mayor of Yerevan and the Sergey Kopirkin, Ambassador of Russia to the Republic of Armenia attended the annual event.
A symbolic 27 million trees will be planted in dozens of countries this year. According to official statistics, the Soviet Union suffered just as many casualties in 1941-1945.
In a briefing with reporters, Ambassador Kopirkin stated that Russia has already expressed its position on the use of ‘Iskander’ during the 44-day war, it is quite clear; it has nothing to add to those comments.
Earlier, Moscow denied the use of ‘Iskander’ in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). Russian President’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov considered the Azerbaijani information on the discovery of the ‘Iskander’ fragment to be new, noting that it was within the competence of the military.
“We have already learned that different politicians make assumptions and accusations. However, there is a clear official position, which should be the guideline. As for the captives, that work must be completed. The Russian side is actively participating in this process to support the principle that has been established since the beginning,” said the Russian Ambassador to Armenia.
