A group of European Parliament members, including the head and the members of the Foreign Affairs Committee appealed to the European Union (EU) to suspend the further financing of Georgia after several failures to start political dialogue between the Government and the opposition, TASS reports.
The process of taking Georgia out of the domestic political crises is held by the mediation of Christian Danielsson, personal envoy of European Council President Charles Michel. However, the diplomat’s two attempts failed.
The parliamentarians urged the Georgian ruling party to intensify its efforts of reforming the electoral and juridical systems.
Georgia is to receive about 60 million Euro micro-financial assistance from EU in 2021. The European Parliament is not entitled to make decisions concerning the implementation of aid programs. Its vote is for advisory purposes only. The European Commission and European Union Council are the decision makers.
